SAAC Christmas Gift Shopping - DECEMBER - 2 hours

For the final community service outreach event organized by the Tulane Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) we decided to sponsor a dream Christmas for three local families. After collecting the children's Christmas wish lists, two groups of student-athletes went out to go shopping for the families. I went to Walmart with a basketball player. We scoured the store to find their dream presents and it was a lot of fun to throw in some bonus gifts with our spare budget. Later this week we'll wrap and deliver the presents to the families and I'm so happy to have gotten this opportunity through Tulane Athletics. 

First semester of the pharmacology program wrapped up. I've been able to find a healthy balance between school and athletics. This year has been all about relaxing and getting ready to be a mentally good place before medical school next year. I know that these classes will be beneficial to help me retain some knowledge next year, but I am most excited to have more hands-on with simulated and real patients as well as more discussion team-based learning when I matriculate to medical school.

SAAC Holiday Community Service - NOVEMBER 3 hours

Throughout the month of November the Tulane Student Athlete Advisory Council put together several opportunities for athletes to give back to the community. As representatives of the university, and as athletes we have a unique position to integrate and uplift the New Orleans community. The first service opportunity I took part in was creating holiday cards for hospitalized children. Being in the hospital during the holidays can be a very isolating experience for young children, and we wanted to help let these kids know that we were thinking of them in the holiday season. The next service opportunity I took part in was our annual canned food drive. In addition to donating my own cans, I was able to go out and get cans on my teammates behalf. It was lovely to be able to devote some of my time I'm already grocery stopping to pay it forward to feed those less fortunate than myself. Let's P.L.A.Y. Tulane Medical School/Student-Athlete Community Outreach - 3 hours

  09/26/23 - 3 hours Let's P.L.A.Y. is a partnership between Tulane Athletics and Tulane Medical School to go teach kids (5th-8th grade) about sports-related topics like: nutrition, teamwork and physical health at the Lawrence D. Crocker College Prep School.  Today, we played with the 5th and 6th grade volleyball team and 7th and 8th grade volleyball team. After doing a quick warmup of jogging and stretching, we moved to passing and serving practice before playing a quick scrimmage. For the last part of our time we cheered the 5th and 6th grade team while they played against an opposing school. We ended up winning the match thanks to our good serving.  After our volunteering was all wrapped up I talked to Jack (The club leader from the medical school) as well as some of the faculty of the school to brainstorm some bigger future projects like a Field Day or bussing the kids down for a Game Day at Tulane. Let's P.L.A.Y. 10/19/23 and 10/26/23 - 4 hr

I've gotten to go to two more sessions of Let's P.L.A.Y. at the Lawrence D. Crocker College Prep School. Once again I helped run volleyball practice with 5th and 6th grade girls who have qualified for playoffs. On 10/19, in order to practice against some more challenging competition, Coach Izzy (the 7th and 8th grade coach), the medical students and I played a game of volleyball against them. We wanted to challenge their serve-receiving abilities and passing which has been inconsistent this season and really challenge them to elevate their level of play. Something that we've been trying to channel their energy into more words of encouragement for one another rather than criticizing their teammates when they miss a ball. It was definitely a fun challenge for them to play against their coaches, and I think having a common opponent helps them come together.
