February Service Hours - 3 hours

Today we put on an adoption drive/photo shoot as a collaboration between Tulane Athletics and a local dog shelter. We had 5 dogs on campus and brought the dogs around campus and took lots of photos with their adoption vests on to get the word out. It's so fun to be a part of an athletics department that puts on community service events for me to get involved with!

I volunteered in my first shift at the Reily Foods Kitchen. I got to work alongside a great group of retirees and we packed up meals for school children. I'm super excited to have found this opportunity because it's a bit more flexible with shifts than Let's PLAY which I wasn't able to get to anymore.

SAAC Christmas Gift Shopping - DECEMBER - 2 hours

For the final community service outreach event organized by the Tulane Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) we decided to sponsor a dream Christmas for three local families. After collecting the children's Christmas wish lists, two groups of student-athletes went out to go shopping for the families. I went to Walmart with a basketball player. We scoured the store to find their dream presents and it was a lot of fun to throw in some bonus gifts with our spare budget. Later this week we'll wrap and deliver the presents to the families and I'm so happy to have gotten this opportunity through Tulane Athletics.  First semester of the pharmacology program wrapped up. I've been able to find a healthy balance between school and athletics. This year has been all about relaxing and getting ready to be a mentally good place before medical school next year. Let's Play - 3 hours - January 18 2024

Since returning back from winter break I was so excited to begin working with Let's Play again. Let's Play is a service learning opportunity with elementary/middle school students where we explain healthy lifestyle choices (diet, exercise, mental health, etc.) and join their afterschool sports sessions. Since the start of the semester was welcomed with lots of severe weather, some of the sports teams had just gotten started, so there was a little bit of disorganization during practice. We had the opportunity to play soccer with the boys and basketball with the girls. I was pretty rubbish at both, but I think the kids had lots of fun while crossing me up for a few hours. Unfortunately this may be my last time volunteering with Let's Play since my competition schedule is picking up this semester. Our semester has started off to a great start. SAAC Holiday Community Service - NOVEMBER 3 hours

Throughout the month of November the Tulane Student Athlete Advisory Council put together several opportunities for athletes to give back to the community. As representatives of the university, and as athletes we have a unique position to integrate and uplift the New Orleans community. The first service opportunity I took part in was creating holiday cards for hospitalized children. Being in the hospital during the holidays can be a very isolating experience for young children, and we wanted to help let these kids know that we were thinking of them in the holiday season. The next service opportunity I took part in was our annual canned food drive. In addition to donating my own cans, I was able to go out and get cans on my teammates behalf. It was lovely to be able to devote some of my time I'm already grocery stopping to pay it forward to feed those less fortunate than myself.
